Afghanistan: Open letter from our beloved Lotus Flower Programme graduate
We’d like to share an open letter from one of our beloved Lotus Flower Programme graduates on the devastating situation in Afghanistan.
‘My heart breaks for the women and girls in Afghanistan. I should know, I was one of them.
Women and girls in my home country have had to overcome challenges in realising their fundamental human rights, but have in recent years found hope through education and work. Many have become doctors, lawyers, lawmakers, activists – key players for a brighter Afghanistan.
But earlier this week, progress was set back 20 years. Progress went up in flames in just a matter of hours.
I came to the Netherlands to escape the terror of the Taliban – terror brought on simply because of my efforts to support women and girls. Today, my family and I are safe and I’m free to live my dreams, but many of the women and girls in Afghanistan are not.
What can we do? Please consider making a donation to Women for Women International’s Emergency Support for Afghan women here.’
